My Ubuntu Desktop with Compiz and Mac4Lin

I recently tried Mac4Lin, and followed some of the instructions found here on Howto Forge (which is a bit outdated but good enough). Well, this was the result and I'm loving it!

(You've to click on the image to see the original maximized version.)

Plain Desktop:

Win + Tab:

Exposé:

Cube:

Ctrl + Alt + Down:

Crowded Desktop:

Now, I'm really confused if I should give a shot at installing a Hackintosh.

You almost had me convinced that you were running Mac OS X. What gave it away was the menu bar on top and the fact that the two files on your desktop were to the left. On Mac they would be on right.

Cube and Win + Tab look nifty.

I'm very happy to announce that Mac4Lin has been declared as one of the finalists at Sourceforge.net Community Awards 2009 in the Best Visual Design category. The final phase of voting began today and will run till July 20th 2009. Please vote for Mac4Lin, if you feel it deserves to be voted. To vote click on this image:

http://sf.net/community/cca09/vote/?f=414

Optionally, you can also click on the first box in the right frame on my blog (http://phoenix-ani.blogspot.com). You do not need to Sourceforge.net login id. All you need is a valid email id. Each vote is associated with an email id, which needs confirmation that you actually voted (you will get an email giving a confirmation link, so all you need to do is click it). The whole voting process takes just 3 clicks.

I urge patrons to vote for Mac4Lin if they feel it should win. Mac4Lin is completing with projects like Xbox Media Center (XBMC) etc. I once again thank everyone for their continued support, feedback and appreciation. Mac4Lin exists today because of you all :) Do spread the word around about this.

Ajeya,

I didn't know that the icons would be on the right hand side on a Mac. Yes, the Menu bar doesn't look like a Mac at all. There are two more things that's bothering me: 1) The Gnome icon on the top most corner of the left hand side - an Apple icon is usually found there 2) The network icon on the right hand side which now looks like "<...>", I doubt if that's how the network icon is on a Mac.

@Anirudh - Thanks for letting me know about the poll, I've voted for Mac4Lin.

Nice one. I am using this. The same one also present in Solaris.

The network icon size... thats a bug. Its supposed to be smaller. Someone pointed that out to me. I will fix it soon. Actually, I don't use network manager so couldn't test that out. If you want, you can remove that and instead use the Network Monitor applet.

Also, the Apple logo is not bundled with Mac4Lin due to legal issues.

@Anirudh - Thanks! I'm using the Network Monitor applet now in the notification area and it looks much better and very pleasing.
